Obama's upcoming inauguration minefield

Obama will be inaugurated in a few days. From listening to people here, I get the impression that Washington DC will be filled not with millions of supporters cheering him on, but rather neo-nazis lurking behind every mailbox trying to blow his brains out.

The fact that he is riding in a limousine and not a convertible somehow is used to back this up if I ask people for some kind of evidence. (Never mind that the Emperor rides in a closed vehicle when he comes to town and has armed sharpshooters on rooftops. I know because he stayed in the hotel next to my office and the police warned us to keep away from windows.) After all Kennedy rode in a convertible, and well, er, well... Japanese don't like confrontational discussions, so as soon as I disagree with people's assessment it's usually end of discussion and they just say "dangerous, dangerous!" like there's several miles of landmines he has to drive across before reaching the steps of the capitol building.

People here are fascinated with him and seem to really like him, but you get the feeling that Japan somehow helped him get elected despite the opposition of the racist American public.
